This is my dream, my passion to recreate the more beautiful parts of Tolkien's world into my own...To merge what I see with what I do not see, to have a blending of his world with mine...To be able finally to walk in the land I have so longed dreamed of...Come walk with me as we make this journey together...

Elronds Chamber Room

Here's one idea for a Rivendell room I call Elrond's Chamber.
Its actually my son's bedroom currently but this is what I did to make it look like a Rivendell room. The walls are painted a medium taupe color to resemble or hint at stone, old stone. Then I added a wallpaper border around the top on three walls only (tell ya why in a moment). The wallpaper is really cool as it is a taupe background with this lovely scroll type design in it done in a bone color. The fourth wall I painted a lovely sky blue and then added a lifesize (approx 7' x 6') willow tree. On either side of the willow there is a white roman stlye column with scroll work at the top and bottom of columns. This picks up on the scroll work in the border. See the connection? I also added brass colored outlet covers and lightswitch cover also. Its adds a little richness against the taupe walls. I have a deep oak stain on the door trim, closet trim and window trim. On the windows I put a lovely wine colored window treatment that hangs to the floor and opens in the middle revealing a lovely bone colored sheer underneath. Again I will see if I can post some pics soon. I am going to add a long wine colored fringe to the base of the outer curtain and also on the bottom of the matching valance up top. This will also add to the "richness" of the room. The taupe walls with the burgundy looks stunning and is actually very masculine. On the bed I found this lovely faux satin/ velvet quilt coverlet that is so wonderfully elven it gives me chills to see it! It has lovely burgundy, navy, gold and sage green in it with leaves in the quilt squares. Large, lovely, oversized, beautiful leaves.....It has matching shams as well. I just love it! Behind this on the wall I took a burgundy sheer and "framed" the bed. I "poofed" the top of the sheer then brought it out on either side- left and right and tacked it too the wall with a tie back. It just frames the bed so well. Then as wall decor in addition to the blue wall with the tree I put a print that is certainly straight out of Middle Earth and another large print of a wonderful sage background print with a vase with tall leaves in it. Bringing together once more the nature theme and the leaves. The other thing I really wanted to do and if I ever get the chance still will is to put faux columns all around the room for a portico effect. This was my original intent kind of like what you see in the movie. I wanted you to feel that you could enter any of the archways and go deeper into the Rivendell house....The columns I used in the outdoor scene didn't look as good as I wanted them to so I kept only the two as they were really needed to give the impression of looking out into a garden with the willow tree, a small grey bunny and some butterflies. It works there.... Now if anyone wants to replicate the willow tree and doesn't know how here's a little secret for ya. Look up tatouagedesigns.com and you'll find it there. Its a dry rub transfer product that works well and looks great! The border I found at Walmart but sure you can find it anywhere similar or your local paintstore. The spread I found at Seventh Avenue mail order catalog. Just thought if anyone wanted to replicate this room that might help. The floor is a pale blue carpet that kind of disapears with the wall and burgundy accents. It also blends because of the blue sky wall and the navy in the spread. So there is no clashing going on which we DON'T want! No! No! No! None of that!

Trying to think if I missed anything in this room. Oh yes originally if my son hadn't been going in this room and it remained a guest room as originally planned I was also going to enlarge some black/grey bust sketches of past famous elves that are in one of the books I have relating to the movies and books. I was going to make them a little large frame them and put them around the room for a "historical" look . I think that would have looked really cool!!! Oh it makes me drool thinking of how much further this room could have gone. Oh and again I forget! Behind the door of this room is a quirky little arean that I put a tall little plant stand table made of dark mahogny wood with a white marble top. I found this really neat "curvy" brown/honey ceramic vase that is sitting on it with some colorful flowers in it. On the wall behind it is more tataouage of a stone wall fountain with a lion's head. Its lovely, large and convey's once more the sense that in Rivendell the rooms open out into nature and often also bring it in. So if the room was made of "stone" then you could have a heavy stone fountain on the wall, why not? Makes good sense to me!

Ok folks! Thats all for now... Need to attend to other business elsewhere. Hope you enjoyed the room. Like I said I'll try to post some pics as soon as I figure out how to do so. Still new at this game...But I'm giving it my best shot!

Your room look Awesome with your creation. It would look more beautiful if you have used Pic Frames instead of wall papers.

Dear Edward,

Not sure what you meant by pic frames...Clicked on the link but it didn't make sense to me. Please clarify. The only wallpaper used was the border which really helps make the room. Appreciate the compliments though!
